The Story about the story

Hi! This is Sabrina.
First of all, I was thinking that we must be fair to our country and we’ve been writing in this blog only in english. So, i think that (I don’t know about Pablo, but surely he’ll agree with me) I’ll start writing both in english and spanish.

Ok, lets get this blog post started.

The Story about the story of “Can you see me?”…

It all started with two people, a boy and a girl, meeting each other on vacation, getting along really well… and sharing each other stories that they have written, draws, ideas…. yep, ideas in general…

And one of those ideas, was this one that the boy had… about an other boy, that sits alone in a park, and got scared when a swing start to move all by itself.

Days later, the girl dream about this idea… and finished the story in her dreams.

Generally her dreams are too crazy to put it on paper, or they’re just… nonsense… but sometimes, she dreams stories that are worth telling. Like this one. So… she write it down, just as she dreamed it.

Also, she draw this.

This is the first sketch of the second character of the movie and her evolution over this four months. She is called “Ethel“. Ethel is this… lifeless girl, nothing interests her anymore… and she’s bored aaaaaaaaaall the time.

But not Victor. He may be lonely, underestimated, invisible to everyone… but, he does not hate his life… he embrace it, no matter how miserable it is… because he can see things that no one else can… and he knows that good things will come… someday… and he knows that there’s someone for him. Well, there’s someone for everyone of us. Someone that will understand us, and love us, just as we are. And, to Victor… just the idea(and hope) of someday be able to talk to her, gets him through the day.

I think i revealed to much. Damn.

how we manage the files structure

Well, one of the most important things to decide when we start this project was how we were going to organize and sync the files between the computers. We are using 4 computers which are in differents locations, so it was fundamental decide it from the beggining.
We could use SVN to sync the files and control the versions. But we both were using Dropbox before with succesfull results so we keep on using it.

file structure and sync

file structure and sync

As you can see on the graph each shot link a few of files who at the same time are linking to other files (using groups). It’s the best way to work, despite you have to deal with a lot of files, this way let you work more efficiently and distributive.

Dropbox plus has a very fast sync service so just before you save the .blend file you will see on the others computers the notice that someone have change the file. And another great thing about this service is that you have a version control, so dont worry if you save when you dont want to, you can go back to other versions of the same file.

The importance of having a good soundtrack!

Hi there! this is Sabrina again. Today we’re making the t-shirts and stickers that i wrote about in the last blog post! you can see the stickers at the left. And also, you can see me below  hahahh

Something happened within the last two weeks. We were worried about the soundtrack of “can you see me?”. We wanted to compose it ourselves, but… don’t have the time (or skills haha). So, we start thinking about what to do, as the music is so important. Without it, the movie doesn’t work at all. Then, a week ago, we decided to write an email to the lead singer of an indie argentinian band called “Mis amigos muertos” (that we like veeeery much). We think that his music will give the movie the exact mood that we want.

We told him that and he agree to make the soundtrack!!!

So, that’s settled. It’s a huge relief for us. And we know that he’ll do an amazing work. We’ll send him the animatic within this week so he can work with that.

If you want to listen to him, here’s his lastfm page http://www.lastfm.es/music/Mis+Amigos+Muertos

I personally like “Hacer mal el te” and “Incendio:)

That’s all for now. I thiiink that Pablo is also writing a post in the other machine hahaha  byeee! (more…)

Friday, May 20th

Hello!! My name is Sabrina and i’m a member of Soki studio, along with Pablo Lizardo, and i’m in charge of the animation of our first animated short movie.

This is a little bit strange for me… never had a blog before. Never even had a diary. But… this might be fun! :)

Mmm were to begin…

Today we finish animating  ”can you see me?”…  of what we’re so happy and enthusiastic about it!!! still can’t believe that we’ve done so much in such little time. It’s true that with motivation (and LOTS of free time hahah), everything can be acomplished. There’re a lot of details to correct, thought… usual stuff, timing… continuity. Hope it to be finish by august.

Also, this week ours new acquisition will be t-shirts… for printing the logo of soki and the movie on them. Homemade, of course. We love doing crafts. Actually, yesterday we stay up until 2 am making this clay doll of Victor, the main character of  ”can you see me?“. But today, sadly, Pablo break Victor‘s leg :( !! by accident, of course hahah

Here’s a photo…

Notice the poor leg. Good job, Pablo! hahahah

……………….I know, it’s faceless… we got sleepy hahaha

And -drums please- the hole purpose of this blog post….

A little peek of the movie.

Scene 8.

I don’t know about you, but i love it :) !

Well, that’s all. I’m off to sleep.

We’ll try to keep this running, at least once a week… Byee!!
